Fieldtrips
Our field trips are conducted to various sites around South Australia and sometimes Interstate. Abandoned mines, private and Crown land, working mines & quarries are some of types of places visited by our members as organised Society activities.
Our Field Trip Officers are experienced collectors and have undertaken first aid training.
They operate under the guidelines set out by The Mineralogical Society, the Gem and Mineral Clubs Association of South Australia Inc. and, owners and management of sites visited. Field Trip Officers have ultimate control of any trip and failure to obey their instructions can result in expulsion from the site. Thankfully this action has never been necessary.
Only elected Field Trip Officers are authorised to lead field trips on our behalf and they must carry identification at all times. This identification will include a Field Trip Officers card, which must be produced if asked for by a landowner or mine management. Any
person not producing such a card or not supplying written authority from
The Mineralogical Society to act as a Field Trip Officer should be reported to the Society as soon as possible.
If at any time there is any reason for concern you are urged to contact the Society as soon as possible. Communication with the Society is welcomed at all times regarding any issues, concerning collecting areas, Society members or landholders.
